GFC gu12s Finish 1st and 3rd in the League. Grasshopper FC gu12 teams finished MASC league play today at home at Tufts University Bello Field with back-to-back 3-0 results to claim 1st and 3rd places in the final league table.
With league standings in the balance, the first match of the day saw GFC White take on Somerset YS in an important match. Even though GFC White cannot catch Somerset in the table they are looking to avenge the points taken from them in the draw with Somerset earlier in the season and prove their ability. They also need points to stay out in front of 4th place Reading United. And if GFC White can take points from Somerset they will assure GFC Black top spot in the league. GFC White went straight at the Somerset team with a well-taken early goal from Haleigh. The GFC team continued throughout the match to dominate possession with quality ball movement and some surgical passes in behind the Somerset back line. Haleigh, striker du jour, later added 2 more goals to wrap up the 3-0 victory and secure a 3rd place league finish with 16 points from 9 matches.
The second match saw GFC Black go against rivals Reading United in a commanding display of dominant soccer. From the beginning, there was little question about the impending result as the league leading GFC Black took control of the match from the whistle with quality play in possession with proper build up and good combination play to get forward in the attacking 3rd. The goals took longer to come than expected but the consistent patience and pressure paid off with 2 goals toward the end of the 1st half, 1 from Nina and 1 from Emma. With Nina adding a 3rd goal in the 2nd half. the 3-0 result GFC Black finishes the season with 24 points from 9 matches, firmly claiming top spot in the league.
