GFC gu12 teams claim 1st & 2nd place at Columbus Day Tournament in southern Maine. The GFC gu12 teams, GFC Olé and GFC Campeone, swept up the awards at the Sanford Soccer Club Columbus Day Tournament in Sanford, ME with a first and second place finish.
Sanford Soccer Club hosted a well-organized tournament with good competition at the gu12 age group. Grasshopper FC chose the tournament for its 8v8 format, keeping in line with its philosophy to train and compete in age-appropriate formats. Despite meeting a couple soft opponents early on in the tournament, overall the GFC coaches were pleased with the competitiveness of the matches. The most competitive match, however, was the all-GFC final where GFC Olé edged out GFC Campeone with an over-time golden goal to claim the 1st place trophy with a 1-0 score line.
The
gu12 group as a whole continue to show great development as individuals and
in their team play. This was some of the most intelligent football we
have seen to date with a new level of combination play. The smart and
composed passing was greatly facilitated by the weekend's theme of
responsibility in support play. The multi-directional passing coupled
with the players' consistent willingness to take on opponents 1v1 made for a
display of smart, effective and entertaining football.
Thanks to all parents and players for making this another great event.
